CREATING YOUR BESPOKE PACKAGE OF CARE

VENTILATION &AIRWAY MANAGEMENT

At Uplifted Lives, we provide specialized ventilation and airway management services to 16 plus and older people who need breathing support at home.

Advancements in medical technology now allow individuals with severe breathing difficulties, often resulting from complex health conditions, to receive their treatment at home through mechanical ventilation.

For some, this involves the insertion of a tracheostomy, enabling ventilation via this route (Invasive Ventilation or IV). Alternatively, ventilation can be administered through a face or nasal mask (Non-Invasive Ventilation or NIV).

At Uplifted Lives, we collaborate closely with acute care settings, respiratory physician, and therapists—including occupational, physiotherapy, and speech therapy professionals—to facilitate your transition from hospital to the comfort of your own home.
Our care packages are designed in accordance with the National Long-Term Ventilation (LTV) Standards, ensuring they are bespoke, safe, and tailored to your needs.

Our care staff undergo a rigorous in-house training program, adhering to best practice guidelines. This comprehensive course, combining theoretical and practical learning with the use of mannequins, is conducted by our Nursing teams with contributions from various professionals. This ensures our care team is thoroughly trained to manage your specific equipment and personal requirements. Whether you are being discharged from the hospital or transitioning from another provider, our care staff will spend time shadowing and mastering every aspect of your care to ensure complete competence and confidence in delivering the highest quality of support.

The types of specialist care we can provide when you require respiratory support at home include:

  • Tracheostomy management, including stoma care, humidification, nebulisers, suction, changing tapes, speaking valve, changing a tracheostomy tube, mouth care and inner tubes.

  • Invasive Ventilation.

  • Non-Invasive Ventilation BIPAP & CPAP.

  • Cough assist.

  • Hand ventilation or bag, valve and mask/tracheostomy ventilation.

  • Chest physio.

A medical ventilator is a machine designed to move air (sometimes with oxygen) into and out of the lungs, this provides the mechanism of breathing for someone who is unable to breathe on their own.

Ventilators can be used in the home safely and for an indefinite period.

Some ventilators can take over the function of breathing completely, and others can assist and support patients to breathe for themselves.

Our staff are fully trained in all aspects of ventilation management.
